PHOENIX – Former Congressman and Republican gubernatorial candidate Matt Salmon delivered a speech at this weekend’s Mohave County Lincoln Day Dinner.
He spoke about our country’s founding, the American people’s God-given rights, and the state’s bright future if freedom-loving conservatives protect our beliefs and values, and fight and keep Arizona from turning into California.
You can read relevant excerpts from the speech below:
Matt Salmon On His Father’s Service In World War II:
“[My dad] went in at 18 years old to go and defend our country, and he was sent to the South Pacific in the hell-hole of New Guinea … He came home and fathered a family of six children … He used to pick me up at the airport when I’d come home from Washington every week … I always answered to my dad: ‘I am fighting for the things that I said I’d fight for.’”
Matt Salmon On Fighting Back Against Federal Overreach:
“Don’t rely on Washington … The federal government didn’t create the states. The states created the federal government … If we’re going to take our freedoms back, it’s going to be through the Ninth and the Tenth Amendments to the Constitution – and every leader of every state standing up and saying, ‘We’re going to take back our own destiny.’”
Matt Salmon On Arizona’s Bright Future:
“Our best days are yet ahead, because I’ll tell you something: I see it as I walk across this state. The sleeping giant has been awakened, and we’re taking it back … How about we make a blood-oath tonight? Not on our watch.”
