Phoenix – Former Congressman and Republican gubernatorial candidate Matt Salmon today issued the following statement in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day:
“I join my fellow Americans in recognizing the vision and contributions of Martin Luther King, Jr. His dream of a freer and fairer nation in which individuals are judged only by the content of their character is one that we all aim to uphold.
“It is unfortunate today that some are pushing political agendas that treat individuals differently based on the color of their skin – under the guise of doing just the opposite. Policies such as Critical Race Theory lend fear that some bad actors are trying to move our society backward, away from Dr. King’s dream and toward division, and it needs to be called out.
“While imperfect, I am proud to live in a nation that continues to meet Dr. King’s aspirations more every day. I encourage my fellow Arizonans to take some time this Monday to recall his words and recommit ourselves to protecting the ideals of freedom and equality that make this country great.”
