Phoenix – Former Congressman and Republican gubernatorial candidate Matt Salmon today issued the following statement urging voters to take a closer look at Kari Lake’s concerning pro-abortion history:
“On Wednesday, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a case that will shape the future of the pro-life movement.
“I was so inspired by how many Americans tuned into the oral arguments and attended the ‘Empower Women, Promote Life’ rally in Washington, D.C., including many familiar faces from Arizona. Whether it’s speaking at the March for Life or advocating for policies that protect the unborn, I have spent my career standing with them on this vital issue, and I plan to continue that tradition in Arizona as our next governor.
“The pro-life debate is a serious one, and it will take a serious candidate with a proven record to defend our movement.
“In light of yesterday’s oral arguments, I want to urge voters across our state to take a closer look at Kari Lake’s concerning pro-abortion history.
“Barack Obama mocked Christians, endorsed partial-birth abortion, and said that he didn’t want women to be ‘punished with a baby.’ Yet Kari Lake donated to Obama’s campaign, resulting in him becoming the second most pro-abortion president in American history behind only Joe Biden, who Lake supported along with Obama.
“If Merrick Garland – whom Kari Lake claimed would be ‘a very good justice’ – were on the U.S. Supreme Court today, he would have tipped the scales in favor of pro-abortion activists for a generation. Thankfully President Trump ignored Kari Lake’s horrendous advice to replace the late and revered Antonin Scalia with Garland and, instead, nominated three constructionists to our highest court.
“In next year’s governor race, conservatives cannot afford to nominate a charlatan like Kari Lake who has been with Democrat Katie Hobbs on the issue of abortion and who seems to view the pro-life movement as nothing more than a convenient commodity to exploit for her own personal gain.
“Before conservatives vote next year, they will be reminded about Kari Lake’s concerning history and ask themselves: if she showed such terrible judgement to lock arms with politicians who disregard life, how can we possibly trust her to defend the most vulnerable, the unborn?”
